A Miami-Dade Grand Jury has indicted a 13-year-old Hialeah boy on charges of first-degree murder, moving his case to the adult felony court system. The boy, whose identity is being withheld due to his age, is accused of killing his mother. His attorneys had sought to have him transferred from an adult jail to a juvenile detention center while he awaits trial, but their motion was denied on Friday.
The case resumed on Friday with a hearing to determine where the teen would be held. The boy remained impassive as his recorded confession was played in court the previous day. The confession revealed chilling details of the crime that took place on the night of October 12th.
According to the police, the boy confessed to stabbing his mother over 40 times. The police were alerted to the crime when they received a 911 call from the teen himself, claiming that he had just killed his mother. The officers were dispatched to an apartment located in the 200 block of West 79th Place.
Upon their arrival, the officers discovered the lifeless body of 39-year-old Irina Garcia in her bedroom. Disturbingly, the body was found next to a crib containing a 14-day-old infant, who was thankfully unharmed. The police confirmed that Garcia had been stabbed multiple times.
The police have since released images from inside the apartment where the crime occurred. Among the released images is a photograph of a long knife smeared with blood, believed to be the murder weapon. The police have stated that they had no prior interactions or history with the family.
The case continues to unfold, with the teen’s attorneys fighting for his transfer to a juvenile detention center. However, the severity of the crime and the indictment by the Grand Jury have complicated their efforts. The boy’s stoic demeanor in court has added another layer of complexity to this tragic case.
