Teen Shot by Uber Driver at Waffle House

A Georgia resident, who was employed as an Uber driver, is accused of shooting a teenage girl following a dispute at a local Waffle House. The disagreement arose over his inability to accommodate all of her friends in his vehicle. Meredith Grundy, 38, was released on bail after being apprehended by the Dunwoody Police Department in the early hours of Sunday.

Grundy was on duty as an Uber driver when he was summoned to a Waffle House in Dunwoody. Upon his arrival, he was met by five teenage girls who were anticipating a ride. However, he informed them that his vehicle did not have sufficient space or seatbelts to safely transport all of them. This led to a heated argument, during which one of the teenagers allegedly threatened Grundy’s life and physically assaulted him. In response, Grundy is said to have retrieved a firearm and shot the girl multiple times.

The Dunwoody police, in a press statement, mentioned that the other four girls denied any threats being made prior to Grundy allegedly opening fire. The 16-year-old girl, who was reportedly shot by Grundy, was rushed to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta with gunshot injuries to her back and legs. A local independent news outlet, WANF, reported that the girl was in critical but stable condition as of Tuesday.

Grundy was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm. Jail records indicate that he was released on bail, although the exact date remains unclear. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office was contacted for further clarification but did not immediately respond.

Uber, in response to the allegations against Grundy, confirmed his association with the company. In a statement provided to WANF, the company expressed its horror at the reported details of the incident. The statement also mentioned that Grundy’s access to the platform had been revoked and that the company was prepared to assist law enforcement with their investigation.
