A 16-year-old boy, David Anthony Vargas Acker, was tragically killed on July 30 in an incident involving a firearm. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Florida reported that David, his girlfriend, and a friend were playing with a gun when the fatal shooting occurred.
David’s family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral and legal expenses as the investigation continues. They described David as a joyful young man who brought laughter, happiness, and light into every room he entered. His untimely death has left a significant void in the lives of his family and those who had the privilege of knowing him.
The firearm involved in the incident was reportedly brought to the home by David himself. The tragic event unfolded on the 1100 block of Easton Street in the early hours of July 30. The three teenagers were reportedly pointing the gun at each other and posing with it when David’s girlfriend allegedly pointed the gun at him and pulled the trigger.
The girl, who is being charged as a juvenile, is now facing a count of aggravated manslaughter of a child. She was arrested on Wednesday, as reported by local news outlets.
David’s mother, Veronica Acker, expressed her grief and disbelief at the tragic event, describing it as a nightmare from which they want to wake up. David’s father, David Vargas, also shared his profound sorrow, stating that he has been unable to eat or sleep since the incident.
David was the fourth of six children in the Acker family. He had plans to graduate early from high school and work alongside his father as a contractor. His mother described him as the glue that held their family together.
