Teen Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting of Sonic Drive-In Manager

A 17-year-old girl, Adiah Namir Roberson, was apprehended in Dallas on Tuesday by the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force. Roberson is accused of fatally shooting a Sonic Drive-In manager in San Antonio on July 7, following a dispute over counterfeit money.

The incident occurred at a Sonic Drive-In in northwest San Antonio, where Roberson, along with 28-year-old Joshua Albert Joseph and another woman, attempted to pay for their food with counterfeit money. Daniel Shrewsbury, the 33-year-old manager, confronted the group about the fake currency. The group eventually paid with legitimate cash, but not before allegedly stealing money from a cup.

As the group was leaving, Shrewsbury followed them outside to photograph their license plate. This action reportedly upset Joseph, who was driving the vehicle. He warned Shrewsbury that he was about to be shot, at which point Roberson is alleged to have pulled out a gun and shot Shrewsbury.

Following the incident, the suspects fled the scene. Arrest warrants for murder and forgery of a government document were issued for Joseph and Roberson on July 16. Joseph was apprehended a month later, while Roberson was listed on the Texas Department of Public Safety’s top 10 “Most Wanted” list.

After his arrest, Joseph expressed regret for the incident, stating, “I apologize for the actions of somebody who happened to be with me, and none of that should have happened. That person made a decision they shouldn’t have made.”

The second woman present during the incident is currently considered a witness. The method used by authorities to track Roberson to Dallas has not been disclosed.

Shrewsbury’s mother, Peggy Cofield, paid tribute to her son on his obituary page, describing him as a jovial individual who loved his job and his employees. She wrote, “Daniel was a jokester who made everyone he worked with happy, and they all loved him so much.” She also remembered him as a helpful person, always ready to lend a hand.
