Teen ‘accidentally’ shoots her mother in the head

Last week, a 19-year-old woman from Texas was arrested after she reportedly shot her 50-year-old mother in the head with a .40-caliber handgun, claiming she was attempting to show the other woman that the gun was not loaded. Crystal Lissette Mar was apprehended on July 8, and was charged with one count of aggravated assault of a date, family, or household member using a deadly weapon.

The Laredo Police Department and the Fire Department were contacted by a 911 call about the shooting, which happened at around 3:30 am on Saturday, July 8, at a home in the 1400 block of Hibiscus Lane. Once they arrived, paramedics found the mother and began to give her medical attention, with her being conscious and able to talk.

Mar’s mother told officials that her daughter asked to borrow her phone because she had forgotten hers in her friend’s car. She then noticed that Mar was carrying a handgun in her purse. The mother said she demanded that Mar remove the bullets and get rid of the firearm. Mar then tried to take the magazine out of the gun, and then there was a loud noise. The mother realized that she had been shot and immediately dialed 911. Mar’s mother stated that the shooting was an accident.

Mar fled the scene before the authorities arrived, but was found two blocks away and taken into custody. Police found the Smith and Wesson handgun with Mar, who was still holding the magazine. When interviewed by investigators, Mar told them that she was not experienced with guns and was just trying to show her mother that the weapon was not loaded.

Mar is currently being held at the Laredo County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
