The country musician and identical triplet died Sept. 28 in Nashville after breast cancer that had progressed to Stage 4.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Nicole Taylor, a singer, musician and member of the country trio Taylor Red, died Sept. 28 after living with breast cancer for four years, according to her family. She was 35.
Taylor’s sisters and bandmates, Nika and Natalie Taylor, publicly announced her death in early November through the group’s website and social media accounts. The three identical triplets built Taylor Red together, first as musicians and later as widely followed online creators. Nicole Taylor’s sisters said she had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in 2022, initially responded well to treatment and later learned the disease had advanced to Stage 4.
“Nicole, the oldest of us three sisters, will be greatly missed,” Nika and Natalie wrote on the band’s website. “She was our leader and our best friend.” The family said a private funeral service had already been held. Their statement described Nicole as a central figure in both their family and the group they had spent years building together.
In a video discussing their sister’s illness, Nika and Natalie said Nicole was first diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in 2022. They described the cancer as aggressive but said she initially responded well to chemotherapy and at one point was declared to have no evidence of disease. The cancer later returned and progressed to Stage 4, according to the sisters. They said doctors eventually gave Nicole an estimated three months to live, but she lived about another year.
Her sisters said Nicole continued working, traveling and exercising during treatment. They recalled that she remained hopeful after the diagnosis and tried not to organize her life around fear. Their account also reflected the family’s Christian faith, which had long been part of Taylor Red’s identity and music. Natalie said Nicole had found peace before her death, while both sisters said they were still processing the loss.
Nicole performed with Nika and Natalie as Taylor Red, a group rooted in country and Christian music. The sisters, who are from Mississippi and later moved to Nashville, originally performed under the name Red Roots before adopting the Taylor Red name. Nicole served as the group’s lead singer and also played instruments including guitar, banjo and violin. The sisters were known for combining traditional country instrumentation with polished pop-country production.
Taylor Red developed a broader audience through social media after years of live performances. The trio’s song “Country Money,” released in 2021, gained traction online and helped expand their following. Their videos often featured the sisters singing, playing instruments, dancing or appearing in coordinated outfits. By the time of Nicole’s death, the group had built audiences numbering in the millions across major social platforms.
The sisters also appeared in advertising campaigns and other entertainment projects as their online profile grew. Nicole worked beyond the trio as a radio personality, including as a morning host for Taste of Country. Colleagues and music outlets remembered her after her death as a talented performer and a strong presence within the group.
Nicole’s death was not announced publicly until more than a month after she died. Her family said she died in Nashville on Sept. 28 and that funeral services were held privately. Nika and Natalie later shared details of her cancer diagnosis as they explained why their sister had been absent and what the family had experienced during her final year.
Taylor Red’s official website now includes a memorial page for Nicole. Nika and Natalie have not announced detailed future plans for the trio, but their public statements have focused on remembering their sister, her faith and the years the three spent performing and building their career together.
