A brutal stabbing incident occurred near a Lower East Side movie theater on Saturday night, resulting in one fatality and another person injured, according to police reports. The incident took place close to the Regal Essex Crossing on Delancey Street and Norfolk Street at approximately 8:32 p.m.
The victims were two males, one believed to be in his 20s and the other a 19-year-old. The older man suffered a stab wound to the abdomen, while the teenager was stabbed in the back, as per police reports.
Emergency medical services transported both victims to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, the older victim succumbed to his injuries. The teenager, however, was reported to be in stable condition.
Police recovered a knife from the scene of the crime. Two individuals were taken into custody in connection with the incident, although the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
The violent episode has left local residents shaken. One local resident, identified only as Paul, expressed his shock and dismay at the incident. “It’s messed up,” he said, looking at the police tape cordoning off the crime scene. “It’s horrible.”
