A high-stakes police chase and subsequent shootout in the Nagazi area of Butterworth, located in the Eastern Cape, resulted in the death of six heavily armed suspects. The confrontation took place on the N2 highway, where the suspects were intercepted by law enforcement while en route from an unknown location.
The situation took a turn for the worse when police attempted to halt the suspects’ vehicles, sparking a high-speed pursuit. Amid the ensuing chaos, one of the suspect vehicles veered off the road and plunged into a nearby river. Police diving units are currently scouring the river for potential additional bodies.
The Provincial Police Commissioner General revealed that the suspects had been on the police’s radar due to their alleged involvement in a series of crimes. A senior police official, who wished to remain unnamed, stated that the group was returning from a meeting when they encountered the police.
