Investigators cited phone records, deleted messages and journal entries as evidence of an alleged relationship with a 16-year-old former student.
CARROLLTON, Texas — A Hebron High School teacher surrendered to police Tuesday after investigators obtained warrants charging her with child grooming and indecency with a child by sexual contact over an alleged relationship with a 16-year-old student, authorities said.
Gloria Martinez Resendiz, 35, turned herself in at the Carrollton Jail on Oct. 6 and was later transferred to the Denton County Jail, according to the Carrollton Police Department. Police said the investigation remains active and additional charges could be filed as detectives review evidence. Resendiz has been charged but has not been convicted, and the allegations have not been proven in court.
The investigation began Sept. 27 after a Hebron High School administrator contacted Carrollton police about concerning electronic communications between Resendiz and a juvenile student. Police said the student had been enrolled in one of Resendiz’s classes during a previous school year but was no longer taking one of her classes when the concerns were reported.
An arrest affidavit obtained by local news organizations says the student’s mother became concerned after finding numerous FaceTime and WhatsApp calls between her daughter and Resendiz. Some calls allegedly lasted for hours. The mother also told school officials that her daughter regularly spent time in Resendiz’s classroom after school even though Resendiz was no longer her teacher, according to the affidavit.
With the mother’s permission, investigators obtained the student’s phone and conducted a forensic examination, according to published accounts of the affidavit. Police said they found communication records, deleted messages and locked journal entries that investigators believed documented a romantic relationship. Authorities also alleged that Resendiz had given the student several gifts. Those details remain allegations contained in the criminal investigation.
Investigators said entries on the phone described kissing between Resendiz and the student beginning in March 2026 and referred to romantic feelings between them. Other entries indicated that the relationship was being hidden from other people, according to the affidavit. Police said the material contributed to investigators’ conclusion that probable cause existed to seek an indecency charge.
Authorities obtained warrants charging Resendiz with indecency with a child by sexual contact, a second-degree felony, and child grooming, a third-degree felony. A magistrate signed a probable cause determination related to the indecency allegation on Oct. 2, according to the affidavit. Police publicly announced the warrants Oct. 5, and Resendiz surrendered the next day.
Lewisville Independent School District placed Resendiz on administrative leave after learning of the allegations and said she is prohibited from entering district facilities while the criminal investigation continues. Hebron High School Principal Amy Boughton told families that the district was cooperating with Carrollton police and that counselors were available for students and staff affected by the case.
Carrollton police have not released information that could identify the student because she is a minor. Investigators also have not publicly disclosed all evidence collected in the case. The affidavit provides the police account used to establish probable cause for the arrest; it is not a determination of guilt.
Police said Wednesday that the investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue reviewing evidence. Authorities have said additional charges are possible depending on what investigators find. Public reporting had not identified an attorney speaking on Resendiz’s behalf as of the latest updates.
