A pregnant woman from Georgia has been arrested in New York, following allegations of murdering her one-year-old son and fleeing her home state. The U.S. Marshals played a crucial role in her capture, concluding a multi-day search initiated by law enforcement officials concerned about the safety of her unborn child and the woman herself.
The woman, 23-year-old Gloria Wright, was a key suspect in the heartbreaking death of her toddler son. Grote Levett, an investigator with the Rockdale County Sheriff’s office, underscored the urgency of the situation before her arrest, highlighting the need to safeguard her unborn child.
Wright’s arrest took place in Rochester, New York, as revealed by the sheriff’s office in a press statement on Saturday. She is facing charges of first-degree murder and child cruelty, following the death of her one-year-old son on January 8, which authorities believe was a consequence of her actions.
Law enforcement was eager to capture Wright, not only to hold her accountable for her alleged crimes but also for her own safety and that of her unborn child. It is believed that Wright fled to New York after her son’s death, which was reportedly due to blunt force trauma to the head.
The arrest warrant for Wright referenced a discussion with a medical examiner who conducted the autopsy on the child. The examiner determined that the severe skull fractures were not consistent with an accidental fall or drop. However, the circumstances leading to the child’s death and Wright’s activities in New York remain undisclosed.
On the day of the child’s death, Wright reportedly spoke to an investigator but was not arrested. The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office had responded to a distress call about a non-responsive person on January 8. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim was a one-year-old child who was later pronounced dead at the hospital despite resuscitation attempts by Emergency Medical Services.
Wright, who has a facial tattoo and was previously a resident of Newton County and Henry County in Georgia, was the subject of a $5,000 reward for information leading to her capture. The Rockdale police officials expressed their gratitude to the public for their support and assistance during the investigation, which ultimately led to Wright’s arrest with the help of the U.S. Marshals.
