One Dead, Several Injured in Shooting Near Tennessee State University

A recent Saturday evening was marred by a shooting incident near Tennessee State University (TSU) in Nashville, resulting in one death and several injuries. The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) revealed that the unfortunate event took place just before the commencement of a homecoming football game at around 5:10 p.m., where TSU was scheduled to compete against Eastern Illinois University at Nissan Stadium.

The police department made the incident public through a Facebook post at 6:30 p.m., indicating that multiple victims had been wounded in the shooting, which occurred at the intersection of Jefferson Street and 27th Avenue North. The MNPD assured the public that the situation was under control and that the victims were receiving medical attention at local hospitals.

In a subsequent update, the police confirmed the death of a 24-year-old male in the incident. They also reported a total of 10 confirmed victims. This information was provided by MNPD Public Information Officer Brooke Reese during a press briefing.

Reese further elaborated that five of the victims were transported to local hospitals by the Nashville Fire Department, while the remaining five arrived at the hospitals in private vehicles. Among the injured, three were non-critical victims who were minors. They were taken to a nearby children’s hospital for treatment.

Reese also highlighted that at least one of the injured individuals was suspected to have been involved in the shooting. The MNPD has not yet released additional details about the incident, as the investigation is still underway.
