Brian DiBiasi, a 40-year-old former police officer from New Jersey, tragically took his own life in a state park on Tuesday. This unfortunate event took place almost nine months after he was arrested for distributing explicit content featuring himself and his wife, also a former police officer, in inappropriate situations in front of their two children. DiBiasi was found in Lower Park, Hopewell Township, with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, as reported by local law enforcement.
In February, following their arrests, both Brian and his wife, Elizabeth DiBiasi, were dismissed from their law enforcement positions. Brian was charged with possession and distribution of less than 1,000 images of child sexual abuse, as well as possession with intent to distribute. Both Brian and Elizabeth were accused of engaging in sexual conduct that could corrupt the morals of a child.
Brian DiBiasi was a member of an online fetish group and reportedly used artificial intelligence software to create the explicit images he later shared with the group. In January, he allegedly shared 36 files containing explicit images and videos of his wife, with their two young children allegedly in close proximity. Investigators also found chat logs where DiBiasi allegedly discussed the presence of children during his and his wife’s intimate moments.
Elizabeth DiBiasi’s attorney, Jerome Ballarotto, expressed shock at the news of Brian’s suicide, stating that his client was completely unaware of her husband’s actions. Ballarotto also suggested that the charges against Brian were not as severe as they were made out to be. He stated, “Nobody saw this coming. Brian’s case wasn’t that bad, because what he did was not good, but it wasn’t nearly as serious as what he was accused of doing. This could have been worked out.”
At the time of his death, Brian had not been formally indicted as the investigation into the allegations was still ongoing. The implications of his suicide on the case remain uncertain, but Ballarotto anticipates that his client, Elizabeth, will be exonerated soon.
Brian DiBiasi had served with the Hamilton police for 21 years, while his wife had an 18-year tenure with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office.
