A Texas nursing student, just days away from her graduation, was tragically killed in a dispute over pets with her roommate, according to law enforcement officials. Chester Lamar Grant, 40, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Tamilore Odunsi, a 23-year-old originally from the U.K., on April 26 in Houston.
Police were called to an apartment on the south side of the city for a welfare check in the late afternoon. Upon arrival, they received no response at the front door. A subsequent search of the premises led them to the back of the apartment where they discovered blood on the concrete patio.
Upon entering the apartment, officers found Odunsi in the kitchen, suffering from multiple stab wounds. Grant was also located in the bedroom, with at least one stab wound. Odunsi was pronounced dead at the scene, while Grant was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.
Local law enforcement informed CBS affiliate KHOU that the pair had been living together for a few months and had been arguing over their cats. The disagreement escalated, resulting in Grant allegedly stabbing Odunsi and then attempting to take his own life. Grant was later transported to the Harris County Jail and is currently being held on a $500,000 bond.
Odunsi’s family has set up a GoFundMe account in her memory. Known as Tami Dollars or TD on TikTok, Odunsi was described as a “beautiful soul, full of light, ambition, and kindness.” A devout Christian, she was actively involved in her church community and was known for her service to others.
Odunsi had aspirations of becoming a nurse and had a particular interest in working with children. Her family expressed their grief over her untimely death, describing it as “an unimaginable loss at a moment that should have marked the beginning of a bright and promising future.”
Grant is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday.
