A former nurse from Ocala, Florida, 35-year-old Alexis Von Yates, has been handed a two-year prison sentence following a sexual encounter with her 15-year-old stepson. The incident, which took place last July, was discovered by the boy’s father during a visitation period.
According to the arrest warrant, Von Yates initiated the sexual act while watching a horror movie with the teenager. She reportedly confessed to the boy about her sexual frustration due to a two-week period of abstinence while menstruating. This led to the teenager undressing her and engaging in sexual intercourse, while his younger siblings were asleep in a nearby room. The boy later revealed that his stepmother repeatedly expressed regret during the act.
The boy’s father, Frank Yates, was believed to be working overnight at the time of the incident. However, he unexpectedly walked in on them. The teenager fled to the bathroom, while his stepmother attempted to cover her nudity with a blanket. The father, shocked and confused, asked his wife what was happening before removing his son from the home.
Von Yates initially faced charges of sexual battery by a person in familial authority, a first-degree felony that could result in a life sentence and a $10,000 fine. However, she pleaded no contest last month after being offered a plea deal on a lesser charge of lewd and lascivious battery on a child between the ages of 12 and 16.
During her sentencing, Von Yates remained emotionless, dressed in a black turtleneck. In addition to her prison sentence, she was ordered to complete 200 hours of community service and pay fines and court fees. Judge Timothy McCourt of the Florida Fifth Judicial Circuit Court agreed to the plea deal, significantly reducing the sentence after the boy and his mother expressed their full agreement with the sentencing.
The boy’s mother, during the hearing, labeled Von Yates an “incestuous pedophile” who had groomed and violated her son. She also called her a “coward” with no remorse for her actions, which she described as “despicable.” She further stated that the incident had ruined the relationship between the victim and his father, who has not spoken to him since the incident.
Von Yates was ordered to have no contact with the boy before she was handcuffed and taken out of the courtroom. She had already lost her nursing license following her arrest in November.
