NFL legend has emergency surgery for blood clots in his legs

NFL icon Deion Sanders is on the mend after undergoing an urgent operation to treat blood clots in his legs. Before the successful surgery, Sanders shared a powerful and motivational prayer.

Sanders had blood-flow issues and needed to have the surgery to take out the clots. On Saturday, Sanders posted a video on Instagram of him in recovery and speaking with his kids from his hospital bed.

“The doctors removed a large blood clot from my leg, and they got rid of the clots under my knee,” Sanders explained. “I have another clot in my right leg that they’ll get to soon.”

The football mentor told his kids that he should be discharged from the hospital on Sunday – only two days after the procedure.

“The other day I went to the doctor to check up on myself and I had two clots in my legs, one in my right leg, one in my left leg in my thigh,” Sanders said prior to the surgery. “Tomorrow I’m having a procedure to get those clots so I can have proper blood flow in my leg and can mend my toes.”

Recently, the former NFL player’s doctors warned him that he may have to have his leg amputated due to the blood clots. At this time, Sanders does not have to lose his leg.

“There’s no discussion of amputation or anything like that,” Sanders remarked. “The doctors were just warning me that this could happen, but I believe in staying positive and not having to go to extreme measures.”

Sanders, 55, had health problems after having surgery to fix a dislocated toe and a swollen nerve. Sanders had three “life-threatening” blood clots, according to People magazine. The Super Bowl victor had two toes amputated in 2021 because of blood clots.
