A Florida man was recently arrested and charged with indecent behavior after he was found naked in an elementary school classroom, allegedly in possession of adult toys and marijuana. The incident occurred on November 28 at Windmill Point Elementary School in Port St. Lucie, Florida, when police were alerted about a naked Caucasian male in one of the classrooms.
Upon arrival, the officers found the man hastily dressing himself and attempting to escape. However, the police managed to apprehend him. The suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Joe Franklin Urias, resisted arrest, leading to a scuffle that resulted in an officer being punched in the face. Urias was eventually subdued and taken into custody as additional officers arrived at the scene.
Further investigation revealed that Urias was a teacher at Somerset College Preparatory Academy, another local school. Urias reportedly told the police that he was homeless and had entered the school through an unsecured window. In the classroom where Urias was initially discovered, officers found several of his personal belongings, including multiple adult toys and women’s underwear. Urias was also found to be in possession of a “leafy green substance in a clear, plastic container,” which the police identified as marijuana.
Urias was subsequently charged with burglary, possession of marijuana (less than 20 grams), battery on an officer, and indecent lascivious behavior. The latter charge was due to Urias being found “naked and running around the school without clothes on” and in possession of adult toys.
Following Urias’ arrest on Thanksgiving night, Somerset College Preparatory Academy issued a statement on Facebook acknowledging “allegations, unrelated to our school, against an individual formerly employed at our school.” The school emphasized the safety and well-being of its students and community as its top priority and assured that all potential employees undergo thorough background checks and screening conducted by the local school district.
The school concluded its statement by affirming that it had addressed the matter administratively and would take all necessary measures to ensure that Urias does not return to their campus. Urias is currently detained at the St. Lucie County Jail with a bond set at $31,000.
