A Texas man is facing two counts of capital murder following a shooting incident in Eddy, a city located approximately 20 miles south of Waco. The suspect, 32-year-old Romi Frentescu, is accused of fatally shooting Michael Morris, 38, and his 18-year-old son, Braxton Johnson, on Saturday.
Reports indicate that Frentescu and Morris had a history of disagreements. The incident reportedly began when Frentescu was working on his motorcycle outside his home and Morris drove by, making an offensive gesture. Frentescu then followed Morris to his residence, which was about two miles away.
Frentescu alleges that a physical altercation ensued, during which Morris brandished a switchblade knife. He further claimed that an individual in a GMC Sierra attempted to run him over, forcing him to take cover behind a telephone pole. The police later discovered the vehicle on top of Frentescu’s motorcycle.
According to Frentescu, he was attacked by several people and, while on the ground, he fired multiple shots in self-defense before calling 911. However, the police report noted that there were no visible injuries on Frentescu’s body that would suggest he had been involved in a fight.
The police report also highlighted inconsistencies in Frentescu’s account, noting fresh blood on the tire and fender of the trailer being pulled by the GMC Sierra. This suggested that the vehicle arrived after the shooting had started.
Witnesses reported hearing five or six gunshots and seeing a man, later identified as Frentescu, running around with a firearm. A nurse who happened upon the scene began performing chest compressions on Morris, who was found on the ground, bleeding and unresponsive. Frentescu reportedly approached her and instructed her to stop, stating that he wanted Morris to die.
Upon their arrival, the police found the nurse, who reported feeling threatened by Frentescu while she was attempting to administer CPR. Morris was pronounced dead at the scene, while Johnson succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Frentescu is currently being held at the McLennan County Jail on a $1 million bond.
The Cossacks Motorcycle Club, with which Frentescu is affiliated, gained infamy in 2015 when it was involved in a shootout with the police and a rival gang, the Bandidos, resulting in nine fatalities and 18 injuries.
