Police say a 3-year-old girl and 10-month-old boy were among three family members hospitalized after the early-morning attack.
NORTHLAKE, Texas — A 37-year-old woman faces two counts of attempted capital murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after police said her husband and two young children were stabbed inside their Denton County home early Tuesday.
Northlake police identified the woman as Holly Leeann Flores. Officers were sent to a home in the 1200 block of Daylily Drive at about 4:20 a.m. Oct. 6 after a man called 911 and reported that his wife had a knife and had stabbed him, authorities said. Police arrived within minutes and detained Flores while officers checked the residence.
During a protective sweep of the home, officers found two injured children, a 3-year-old girl and a 10-month-old boy, police said. Both children had stab wounds to the chest. The 34-year-old man had suffered injuries to his head. Fire and emergency medical crews transported the man and both children to a Fort Worth hospital for treatment.
Northlake Police Chief Robert Crawford said later Tuesday that the children’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening and that they were stable. Authorities did not release the children’s names because they are minors. Police also did not provide a detailed public update on the man’s condition, although local reporting indicated his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Flores was taken separately to a Denton hospital for observation and treatment of possible injuries, police said. After she was treated and released, officers took her into custody and booked her into the Denton County Jail. Police announced two attempted capital murder charges involving the children and an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge involving the adult man. The charges are allegations, and Flores has not been convicted in the case.
Police said they believe Flores is the mother of the two injured children. The man who contacted 911 identified Flores as his wife. Authorities initially stopped short of confirming whether he is the children’s father, underscoring details investigators were still working to establish as they examined what happened inside the home.
Investigators had not announced a motive as of Tuesday night. Police also had not released a detailed sequence explaining what happened before the emergency call or what may have led to the violence. Detectives continued gathering evidence and interviewing people as part of the investigation.
Crawford said officers had previously been called to the Daylily Drive residence about five times since March. Most of those calls involved welfare concerns, he said. The police chief did not provide details about the earlier incidents or say whether investigators believe they were connected to Tuesday’s case.
The incident prompted an emergency response before sunrise in the Northlake community, which is in Denton County north of Fort Worth. Crawford described the case as difficult for responding officers because two very young children were among those injured. Authorities said officers discovered the children only after entering and checking the residence following the husband’s emergency call.
Flores remained in custody as detectives continued investigating the circumstances surrounding the stabbings. Authorities had not announced additional charges or a suspected motive by Tuesday night, and police said the investigation remained active.
