Mom Kills Son During Lawn Mower Argument

A woman, aged 44, has been sentenced to three years in prison after admitting to the manslaughter of her 27-year-old son. The incident, which took place last year, saw Tabatha Lynn Pebler fatally shoot her son, Brandon Chrisco, in the chest during a dispute over a malfunctioning lawn mower. The tragic event unfolded at their home on Stonewood Road on May 31, 2023.

Pebler was initially charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the execution of a felony. However, a plea agreement with the prosecution led to the dismissal of these additional charges.

The affidavit of probable cause reveals that Pebler herself had dialed 911, informing the operator that she had shot her son. Upon arrival, deputies from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Pebler. During the subsequent interrogation, she disclosed that the argument had erupted when the riding mower she was operating became stuck, leading her to seek her son’s assistance.

According to Pebler, Chrisco reacted angrily to the situation, resorting to name-calling and physically pushing her off the mower. In response, Pebler fired several warning shots in an attempt to dissuade his aggressive behavior. She then approached him and fired the shot that would prove fatal. She maintained that her intention was to halt his aggression, not to end his life.

Chrisco suffered a gunshot wound to his upper left chest, with the bullet passing through his body. The presence of multiple shell casings at the scene lent credence to Pebler’s account of the incident.

Pebler began serving her prison sentence on Monday.
