A young mother from South Carolina, aged 22, tragically lost her life after disappearing during a birthday trip. Prior to her disappearance, she had expressed concerns about her safety to her family. Ta’Haley Payton’s body was found in Charlotte, over three weeks after she was reported missing, as confirmed by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Payton, who had a 6-month-old daughter with her boyfriend, had traveled approximately two hours from her Spartanburg home across state lines on November 19. However, following a disagreement the next day, her boyfriend returned home without her, according to a friend who spoke to the Charlotte Observer.
Payton was left stranded without a phone, money, or any resources, as per her friend, Kelanie Davis. After being left alone, Payton contacted her mother from a pub, expressing her unease and her plan to walk to a nearby Burger King. A few hours later, she texted her loved ones, informing them that a friend was supposed to pick her up, but that never transpired.
Payton’s family revealed that she had been admitted to a hospital for postpartum depression and was discharged on November 20. She was reported missing the day after her trip began and was last seen on that day. Her body was discovered on December 11.
Davis remembered Payton as a positive influence who always encouraged others to believe in themselves. The investigation into Payton’s death is still ongoing, and the cause of death has not been disclosed. Davis, like the public, knows little about the investigation but hopes for justice for her best friend.
