A 26-year-old woman, Pamela Alcantara, who had plans to relocate from an apartment she shared with her former boyfriend, was discovered deceased inside a suitcase in Yonkers on Thursday morning, as reported by sources and her family. Alcantara was last seen in her Fordham Heights apartment in the Bronx on Sunday, before her unexplained disappearance, according to police.
Alcantara had a FaceTime conversation with her mother early Sunday, during which she mentioned her plans to attend a church service. However, she never arrived at the service, her family informed News 12. Surveillance footage obtained by the media outlet showed Alcantara entering an elevator in her building, but she was never seen exiting.
Alcantara’s family, in a desperate bid to find her, posted her pictures outside her apartment on Morris Avenue and East 182 Street, praying for her safe return. However, her body was found by police inside a suitcase near the Saw Mill River Parkway, close to Yonkers Avenue and Palmer Road in Yonkers, around 9:50 a.m., as per sources.
Family members revealed that Alcantara resided on the fifth floor of her building with her ex-boyfriend and had plans to move to a new apartment without him. Sources indicated that her ex-boyfriend was apprehended after a license plate reader detected his car near the location where her body was found. Charges against him were pending as of Thursday night.
The shocking discovery left Alcantara’s family in deep sorrow. A relative expressed their devastation to News12, stating, “We are all devastated because this should have never happened. She was only 26 years old and had her whole life ahead of her.”
