A North Carolina family is seeking answers following the tragic death of a 25-year-old woman. Heather Williams was last seen on January 4, entering a light-colored vehicle outside her Fayetteville home. The incident was captured on a Ring camera around 10 p.m. Six days later, on January 10, local police discovered a woman’s body in a nearby wooded area, later identified as Williams.
The Fayetteville police department has been investigating Williams’ disappearance and subsequent death. Their inquiries led them to the wooded area where her body was found. After informing her family, the police announced that they were treating her death as a homicide.
Williams’ older sister, Mary, spoke to local NBC affiliate WRAL about her sister’s challenging circumstances. Heather had been involved in a car accident in 2015, which resulted in cognitive impairment, a limited vocabulary, and a pronounced limp. Despite these challenges, Mary described her sister as a hard worker who strived to lead a normal life.
The police had previously classified Williams as endangered due to her cognitive impairment. Mary revealed that the car her sister was seen entering on the night of her disappearance may have been driven by an individual she met online. The vehicle was located by the police on the same day her body was found.
The Williams family informed WRAL that the driver of the vehicle had been identified. Although the police have a person of interest, no arrests have been made and no names have been released. Investigators were able to trace a three-minute phone call made by Williams in the days before her disappearance.
The Williams family and the Fayetteville police are now appealing to the public for any information related to the case. Mary Williams urged anyone with information to come forward, expressing hope that justice will be served for her sister.
