One man faces a murder charge while seven others are accused of assisting afterward or helping conceal the 30-year-old woman’s death.
RUTHERFORDTON, N.C. — An eighth person has been charged in the investigation of Jordan Elaine Wishon’s death after the missing 30-year-old woman was found buried outside a Rutherfordton residence, according to authorities and public records.
Issaac Odell, 26, of Rutherfordton, was arrested July 9 on a charge of accessory after the fact, WCAB News reported after reviewing public and jail records. His secured bond was set at $350,000. Jail records listed Odell’s address on Pebblestone Lane, the same street where investigators found Wishon’s remains. Authorities have not publicly described the conduct that led to his charge.
Odell’s arrest brought the number of defendants connected to the investigation to eight. Jaydakis Kashaune Hamilton, 25, faces a first-degree murder charge. Six other defendants are accused of acting as accessories after the fact, and four of them also face charges related to concealing or failing to report a death. The charges are allegations, and the defendants have not been convicted in connection with Wishon’s death.
The case began after Wishon was reported missing June 26 from the South Church Street area of Mooresboro, according to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators interviewed people connected to her disappearance and began carrying out several search warrants later that day.
At about 5:17 a.m. June 27, investigators searched a residence on Pebblestone Lane in Rutherfordton and found human remains buried on the property, the sheriff’s office said. Authorities later identified the remains as Wishon. People who knew her told local reporters that she had lived at the residence.
Investigators obtained a warrant June 28 charging Hamilton with first-degree murder. Hamilton was already being held at the Polk County Detention Center on unrelated allegations involving a stolen vehicle, reckless driving and resisting a public officer. Authorities have not publicly disclosed Wishon’s cause of death, identified a suspected motive or explained the evidence supporting the murder charge.
Six additional defendants were announced July 8. Christina Sue Hamilton, Stevon Kristoff Wilkerson, Ronald David Gibson, Tiquah Dominique Carter, Alexis Nicole Morgan and Shadrick Deon Hines were each charged with accessory after the fact, according to information released by authorities and reviewed by local news organizations.
Morgan, Gibson, Hines and Wilkerson also face allegations related to failing to report or concealing a death. Investigators have not released detailed accounts of what each person allegedly did. An accessory-after-the-fact charge generally accuses someone of knowingly helping another person after a felony and does not allege that the person committed the underlying killing.
Christina Hamilton and Carter were arrested June 29 and received secured bonds of $250,000 each, according to published records. Morgan was arrested July 6 and received a $350,000 secured bond. Gibson and Hines were arrested July 7 and received secured bonds of $350,000 each. Wilkerson was arrested the same day and received a $580,000 secured bond, which reports said also covered unrelated warrants.
Publicly available reports did not establish whether the defendants had entered pleas or retained attorneys. Authorities also have not explained the relationships among all eight defendants or their connections to Wishon. No confirmed court schedule for the homicide case had been publicly released as of Thursday.
The discovery and arrests have shaken residents of Pebblestone Lane, which neighbors described as a normally quiet area. Sharon Parker, who has lived nearby for more than two decades, told WLOS that she felt sympathy for Wishon’s family and was troubled by the allegations emerging so close to her home.
Family friend Glen Overhulser told the station that Wishon had helped him because he was elderly and disabled. He remembered her as kind and willing to assist others. Her obituary said she was from Cliffside, attended Mayland Community College and worked as a restaurant server. It said she enjoyed cooking and swimming and was the mother of a daughter.
The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office said its Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate Wishon’s death. Officials have not announced a motive, released a cause of death or said whether additional arrests are expected.
