A violent incident occurred at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania on Saturday night during a homecoming event, resulting in one fatality and six injuries, as per official reports. The shooting took place around 9 p.m. during a tailgate and yardfest event in the vicinity of the football field at the historically black Chester County campus, located approximately 50 miles west of Philadelphia.
Four of the victims suffered gunshot wounds and were immediately transported to Christiana Hospital in varying conditions, as reported by the Oxford Borough Police Department. The Chester County District Attorney, Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe, confirmed that a suspect has been apprehended in connection with the incident.
The police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat at the university. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has been briefed on the situation and has extended his full support to Lincoln University President Brenda Allen and local law enforcement agencies. He urged the public to avoid the area and follow the guidance of local law enforcement.
The Chester County District Attorney’s Office acknowledged the incident in a Facebook post, stating that they were aware of a shooting with multiple victims at Lincoln University. They confirmed that law enforcement had responded to the scene and were actively investigating. They also urged the public to avoid the area until further notice.
In the aftermath of the incident, Lincoln University announced via Instagram that counseling services would be available for students and staff starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Prior to the shooting, the university had been sharing videos of the homecoming celebrations throughout the day.
Chester County Commissioner Eric Roe expressed his condolences on Facebook, asking for prayers for the students and faculty of Lincoln University, as well as the law enforcement officers responding to the incident. He confirmed that a mass shooting had taken place at the university.
