A tragic incident unfolded in Utah when a 23-year-old man, Dylan Treichel, was fatally shot after allegedly claiming he could “dodge a bullet.” His friend, Ashton Jonathon Mann, also 23, is now facing manslaughter charges in connection with the incident. The two friends were reportedly spending time together on February 2, engaging in activities such as smoking marijuana and playing video games, when the topic of firearms came up.
The friends relocated to a detached garage where two handguns were present. Mann informed authorities that they had unloaded the firearms, after which Treichel made the bold assertion that he could evade a bullet. Mann, who has been cooperative with the police investigation, stated that he pointed the unloaded gun at Treichel and pulled the trigger, expecting his friend to dodge the action as a demonstration of his claim.
Mann recounted that Treichel attempted this stunt six times, with both of them under the impression that the guns were empty. However, the situation took a fatal turn when Mann pulled the trigger and a bullet struck Treichel in the chest.
Upon realizing he had been shot, Treichel requested Mann to call for help. Mann promptly dialed 911 and attempted to assist his friend until the arrival of paramedics. Unfortunately, Treichel was unresponsive by the time law enforcement arrived at the scene and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Upon their arrival, police discovered drug paraphernalia associated with marijuana use, along with ammunition and magazines for the handguns.
Mann was arrested in the early hours of February 2. He has been charged with manslaughter and felony possession, purchase, transfer, or ownership of dangerous weapons by a restricted person. He is currently being held without bond at the Salt Lake County Metro Jail.
