Man sneaks into hospital, raping three patients before he was confronted

A Wichita, Kansas man is facing charges for allegedly entering Ascension Via Christi St. Francis hospital and sexually assaulting three powerless female patients.

Wichita police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo shared on Friday that 28-year-old Miguel Rodela was able to enter the facility somehow on Thursday. Furthermore, Rebolledo reported that Rodela got into a physical altercation with security guards and injured two before police arrived, with officers responding to the call at 2 AM after receiving a report of an “officer in trouble.”

Rodela is neither a patient nor an employee at the hospital, and police are investigating how he was able to make his way into the building. Details such as the victims’ ages and medical conditions have been withheld to protect their privacy.

The man was arrested and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail, charged with three rape counts labeled as “sexual intercourse with physically powerless victim,” and held without bond. KAKE-TV informed that Rodela had been convicted of aggravated assault and theft in 2019 and was on a community corrections program according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

On Wednesday, union nurses at the Wichita hospital voted to strike in an effort to protest the company for “putting profits before patients” and addressing workplace violence.
