Man Shot to Death Heading to First Day at Job During Road Rage Incident

ORLANDO, Fla. – A tragic road rage incident in Orlando, Florida, resulted in the death of a man on his way to his first day of work. The victim, identified as 30-year-old David Alexzander Sligh, was fatally shot by Nicholas Carrasquillo, 26, who is now facing a first-degree murder charge.

According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, the Orlando Police Department received multiple calls about the incident early Monday morning. Responding officers found Sligh inside a crashed vehicle, unconscious and bleeding from his head. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Sligh was pronounced dead at 7:04 a.m.

Witnesses identified Carrasquillo as the shooter to the police. He was taken into custody and later admitted to shooting at Sligh’s vehicle after an altercation. Carrasquillo claimed that Sligh had cut him off, prompting him to honk his horn and flash his lights. When Sligh yelled something at him, Carrasquillo opened his door to hear what was being said. The two engaged in a verbal exchange at a red light, but when it turned green, Sligh did not move. It was at this point that Carrasquillo retrieved a gun from his glovebox and fired several shots at Sligh’s vehicle, intending only to “maim” him.

Upon investigation, authorities recovered six shell casings, and surveillance footage confirmed the sequence of events described by Carrasquillo. Police stated that there was no evidence of Sligh being armed or attempting to exit his vehicle.

Family members of the victim shared photos of Sligh and described him as a loving father who was heading to his first day of work at a full-time job. Sligh’s uncle, David Bouton, expressed his disbelief and grief over the tragedy.

Carrasquillo now faces a charge of first-degree murder with a firearm.

In the wake of this senseless act of violence, the community mourns the loss of a young father, and questions arise about the dangers of road rage incidents escalating to such tragic outcomes. Road rage cases serve as a stark reminder of the importance of remaining calm and in control while driving, as well as seeking alternative solutions to conflicts on the road. Local authorities are urging drivers to prioritize safety and exercise restraint to prevent similar incidents in the future. The investigation into this incident is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
