A man from Georgia, who orchestrated a terrifying plot involving a homemade bomb and a python, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison. Stephen Glosser, 38, was convicted for his role in a scheme that involved the bombing of a woman’s home in Richmond Hill, Georgia, on January 13, 2023. The woman, who Glosser had met through a dating app but had no relationship with, was targeted as part of a chilling plan to have her killed and her daughter eaten by a python, as per the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Georgia.
The woman and her daughter were inside the house when the bomb exploded, causing significant damage. The U.S. Attorney’s Office described the level of violence in the case as “astounding,” expressing relief that no lives were lost in the incident. The successful prosecution was attributed to the diligent investigative work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), along with state and local law enforcement agencies.
Glosser, along with an accomplice named Caleb Kinsey, had devised a plan to “kill, intimidate, harass and injure” the woman. The plan involved a series of disturbing acts, including shooting arrows into the woman’s front door, releasing a python into her home, mailing dog feces and dead rats to her house, scalping her, and detonating her home. The pair had located the woman’s home using internet searches and had built the explosive device from parts purchased online.
Following the explosion, Glosser had hired a cleaning service to remove any traces of bomb residue from his home. Beau Kolodka, Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Atlanta ATF Field Office, emphasized the devastating impact of such violent criminals and assured that law enforcement agencies would continue to aggressively pursue and bring to justice those who use explosive devices as tools of destruction.
Glosser pleaded guilty in January to stalking and use of an explosive to commit another felony offense. In addition to his prison sentence, he has been ordered to pay $507,781 in restitution to the victims. There is no parole in the federal system.
Kinsey, Glosser’s co-conspirator, was arrested in Louisiana on unrelated charges and is awaiting prosecution in Georgia.
