Man Kills Wife, Leaving Body in Kitchen for Days with 3 Kids

A Kentucky man, aged 31, is facing charges for allegedly murdering his wife and leaving her body in their kitchen for three days. The man, identified as Salko Husejnovic, reportedly told their three children that their mother was merely sleeping. The charges against Husejnovic include murder, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse in connection with the death of his wife, Jasmina Aljic, in Bowling Green.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene of a car fire following a collision on Threlkel Ferry Road in the early hours of January 19. Firefighters found the vehicle fully ablaze and discovered a body inside after extinguishing the fire. Authorities later confirmed that the victim was dead before the fire started, as there was no soot found in her lungs. The fire was also suspected to be intentionally set.

Husejnovic is believed to have killed his wife three days prior to the discovery of her body. According to an arrest citation, Aljic’s body was left on the kitchen floor while Husejnovic and their children remained in the house. He reportedly told the children that their mother was sleeping.

The investigation also implicated 44-year-old Shelly Boyd, who was in a relationship with Husejnovic’s brother. Boyd allegedly witnessed the attack on Aljic but did not intervene. She is accused of purchasing the gasoline used to set the car on fire and assisting Husejnovic in transporting the body to the location where the car was found. Boyd is facing charges of tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse.

During a preliminary hearing, a detective revealed that Aljic had a protective order against Husejnovic from Missouri. Aljic had been living in Missouri until after Christmas, when she relocated to Bowling Green.

When detectives visited Husejnovic’s home following the discovery of Aljic’s body, Boyd answered the door and claimed Husejnovic was not present. However, police discovered Husejnovic hiding in the house. Initially, he denied knowing his wife’s whereabouts, claiming he last saw her in November.

A search of the house led to the discovery of a bag of clothes hidden in a kitchen cabinet. Surveillance footage allegedly showed Boyd wearing the same clothes while she and Husejnovic were disposing of the car. Detectives also found three blood-stained pillows in the washing machine.

Boyd later confessed to witnessing Husejnovic assault his wife. She confirmed that Aljic’s body was left on the kitchen floor for three days. She also revealed that Husejnovic had initially planned to push the car, with Aljic’s body inside, off a cliff. When that plan failed, he set the car on fire.

In his interview with detectives, Husejnovic admitted to hitting his wife during an argument, after which she stopped breathing. He claimed that it was Boyd’s idea not to call 911 and to leave the body in the kitchen. The cause of Aljic’s death is still under investigation.

Husejnovic is currently held in the Warren County Jail on a $1 million bond, while Boyd is being held on a nearly $50,000 bond.
