ALBANY, Ga. — Authorities are investigating the death of an unidentified man who was found without clothing inside a shed behind a car wash on North Slappey Boulevard, according to Albany police and the Dougherty County coroner.
The man was discovered at about 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, lying on his back, according to reports citing an Albany Police Department incident report. Coroner Michael Fowler said the man appeared to have been dead for some time before he was found. An official cause and manner of death have not been determined.
The police report said several objects had been wrapped around parts of the man’s body, including his neck and one arm. An object around his neck was described as black and fur-like, while the material around his arm was yellow. Authorities released no explanation for the objects or how they came to be there.
Police reported no visible injuries or obvious signs of trauma during their initial examination. Investigators also said they found no immediate evidence of foul play, though the unusual circumstances surrounding the discovery remain under review.
Fowler said there was a strong possibility that extreme heat contributed to the man’s death because of the location where he was found. He also said drugs could have been a factor. Both possibilities remain preliminary and have not been confirmed through an examination.
Authorities have not released the man’s name, age or information about how long he may have been inside the shed. Police also have not said who found him, whether surveillance footage was recovered or whether he had any known connection to the car wash.
The man’s body was transported for further examination. Fowler placed the approximate time of death at 12:55 p.m., but officials had not released additional findings explaining how that estimate was reached.
The Albany Police Department continued investigating the circumstances of the death. The man’s identity and the official cause and manner of death remained pending as of Friday.
