A man from Tacoma, Washington, made a shocking discovery while spending Father’s Day at Dash Point State Park beach with his family. Kevin Ewing, who was searching for feathers with his wife and two young children, stumbled upon a package that contained a severed human toe.
The package, which was wrapped in green cloth and secured with yellow string, contained a small pine box. Ewing initially thought it was a misplaced Christmas gift. However, upon opening the box, he found a decomposing adult human big toe, according to reports.
Ewing expressed his initial disbelief at the discovery. He said it took him a few moments to comprehend what he had found. Once he realized what it was, he immediately set everything down. He also noticed a mutilated dead seagull nearby but was uncertain if the two incidents were related.
Before turning the toe over to the authorities, Ewing took photographs of his gruesome find. These images were later shared with local media. The severed toe is currently undergoing DNA testing to determine if it can be matched to its owner.
The box also contained a feather, burned grass, sage, lavender, and tobacco. Ewing expressed his relief that he was the one to find the toe, rather than someone who might have been traumatized by the experience.
Ewing is now left wondering about the origin of the toe. He speculated that it could belong to a missing person, a murder victim, or perhaps someone who had removed it for unknown reasons. He noted that the toe did not appear to have been surgically removed, as the cut was not clean.
