A 32-year-old man from upstate New York, Drew Garnier, is facing charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder. He was arrested after allegedly killing his pregnant wife and assaulting their two young daughters. The tragic incident took place at their home two days after Labor Day. Garnier is currently detained in Delaware County without bail.
The New York State Police reported that Garnier is accused of stabbing his wife, Samantha Garnier, 29, who was five months pregnant, and their two daughters, aged 6 and 9. The assault reportedly occurred during a domestic dispute at their Masonville residence on the night of September 4. Despite their injuries, the children survived the attack.
The authorities have not yet revealed any potential motive for the alleged assault. They have only indicated that a dispute took place between the couple, both originally from Long Island. The police have not released any further details about the suspect’s or victim’s statements at the scene.
Garnier was apprehended at the crime scene after he surrendered to the police. He was treated for superficial wounds at a hospital before being taken into custody. Samantha Garnier was pronounced dead after being airlifted to a hospital.
Images on Samantha Garnier’s Facebook page depict the couple in happier times, including when she was pregnant in previous years. Many of these photos also include their two young daughters, who Garnier is also accused of stabbing. The state police have stated that the girls are expected to make a full recovery and that family members from outside the area will be taking care of them.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Samantha Garnier’s 6- and 9-year-old daughters. The campaign reveals that Samantha was due to give birth to another girl in February and that she was killed two weeks before her 30th birthday.
In addition to the charges of murder and attempted murder, which could lead to a prison sentence of 25 years to life if convicted, Garnier also faces felony gun charges, including the alleged possession of an AK-47. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
