A Texas man, aged 35, is facing serious charges after allegedly pouring boiling soup on his 67-year-old girlfriend, resulting in third-degree burns. The man, identified as Alexander Alton McDavid from Waco, reportedly committed the act because he believed his girlfriend was talking excessively.
According to jail records, McDavid is being charged with injury to the elderly, assault with bodily injury with a previous conviction, continuous violence against family, terror threat of family, and resisting arrest. As of Monday afternoon, McDavid was still detained at the McLennan County Jail, with his bond set at $130,000.
Local news outlet KWTX reported that an arrest affidavit indicated that the incident occurred on February 28 during an argument at the couple’s apartment on Washington Avenue. McDavid allegedly became angry and accused his girlfriend of talking too much. As she was removing a bowl of soup from the microwave, McDavid is said to have knocked the bowl from her hands, causing the hot soup to spill onto her, resulting in severe burns on her shoulder and forearm.
The victim, who does not own a phone or a car, was unable to immediately report the incident to the police. However, a few days later, she visited the police department to file a report while on her way to an appointment at the Social Security office. The police documented her account and took photographs of her injuries.
The affidavit also revealed that the victim and McDavid had been in a relationship for approximately a year. The victim claimed that McDavid had physically abused her after moving into her apartment. She also alleged that he had choked her in the past, but she had not reported these incidents to the police.
McDavid was arrested last Thursday and remains in custody.
