Hollmer Zelaya, 24, was taken into police custody on Monday in Memphis after an incident that left his friend Kevin Ariel-Gonzalez with a gunshot wound to the face.
According to the probable cause affidavit, officers responding to the call discovered that Zelaya had shot his friend with a pistol found between the couch cushions.
A witness, Jose Betanco-Landero, told police that Zelaya had been playing around with the gun when it went off, hitting Ariel-Gonzalez.
Zelaya also revealed to police that he had hidden the weapon in a drainage ditch near the apartment. The gun was subsequently found and Zelaya was arrested.
Ariel-Gonzalez was taken for medical treatment, while Zelaya is facing charges of reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence. Zelaya is set to appear in court for an arraignment on Wednesday, followed by a bond hearing on Thursday.
