Zachery Ty Bryan, the 43-year-old actor best known for his role on the popular sitcom “Home Improvement,” has once again found himself on the wrong side of the law. Bryan was apprehended by the Myrtle Beach police in South Carolina on January 1, just before 7 p.m. local time. He was charged with second-degree domestic violence, according to confirmed reports. Bryan was subsequently incarcerated in Horry County jail on January 2, with bail set at $10,000.
This is not Bryan’s first encounter with the law. The actor has been arrested three times on charges of domestic violence. In the past year, he has also faced two DUI charges, with the most recent arrest occurring in Oklahoma in October. Bryan’s legal troubles began in 2020 when he was arrested for allegedly strangling his girlfriend at their home in Oregon. He later pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor domestic violence charges and was sentenced to 36 months of probation.
In a surprising turn of events, Bryan proposed to Johnny Faye Cartwright, the woman he was accused of assaulting, in November 2021. The couple shares three children: a daughter named Kennedy and twin sons, Parker and Sequoia. However, Bryan’s legal troubles continued. In 2023, he was arrested and charged with fourth-degree felony assault, third-degree robbery, and misdemeanor harassment. He pleaded guilty to “felony assault in the fourth degree constituting domestic violence,” and was sentenced to a week in jail.
Following Bryan’s arrest, Cartwright released a statement expressing her desire for what’s best for the father of her children. She acknowledged the trauma and struggles that come with such situations and asked for privacy for the sake of their children and families.
Bryan’s former co-star and on-screen father, Tim Allen, expressed his confusion and concern about Bryan’s legal troubles in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2023. Allen, now 71, admitted he didn’t understand the transformation Bryan had undergone, from the person he knew to someone reacting to situations beyond his control.
