A high school art teacher in Texas was apprehended by police while allegedly engaging in sexual activity with a minor student in an unoccupied, under-construction house. The teacher, 51-year-old Jennifer Massey of Davenport High School, was arrested on Thursday following a tip-off to the Comal County Sheriff’s Office about a suspicious person at the property.
The police were alerted to the situation around 6 p.m. after a 911 call reported unusual activity at the vacant building in Garden Ridge. Upon arrival, officers reportedly found Massey in the company of a male juvenile. The sheriff’s office stated that their initial investigation led them to believe that the two were involved in sexual contact.
Massey now faces charges of an improper relationship between an educator and a student, a second-degree felony in Texas. She is currently being held at the Comal County Jail.
The school district where Massey was employed has publicly denounced the alleged misconduct and has placed her on leave. In a statement to local CBS affiliate KENS 5, Comal ISD stated, “The district does not condone inappropriate relationships between teachers and students. Ensuring the safety and security of our students is our top priority. We will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement during their investigation.”
The district also communicated with parents on Friday, informing them of the situation. The message revealed that Massey was charged with having an improper relationship with a student and that she was placed on administrative leave that morning. It was also confirmed that she would not be returning to Davenport High School.
