Marvin Alexan Fernandez Chicas, a heroic dad, gave up his own life to save two children while fishing with his 3-year-old son Dylan and some friends on Lake Nockamixon.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), Chicas noticed two kids having difficulty in the water near Tohickon Creek around 5 p.m. and, despite being unable to swim, immediately leapt into action.
The two children were rescued but unfortunately Chicas disappeared beneath the water and passed away. In honor of his courageous act, his family created a GoFundMe page to send his body back to his mother in Honduras and to provide financial assistance to his wife and son whom he left behind.
The GoFundMe page further described Chicas as a devoted father who was a hard worker and an excellent father who his son never wanted to leave.
The DCNR has a rule banning swimmers from Tohickon Creek and Lake Nockamixon, but according to Haycock Township Fire Chief Harry Grim, people do not always follow the rules and sometimes end up in deep water and take a gulp of water and die.
