A domestic disagreement in South St. Louis took a tragic turn on Monday night when a 74-year-old man allegedly shot his granddaughter. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on the 4600 block of South Broadway, leaving the local community in shock.
The victim, a 19-year-old woman, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head. The suspect, identified as Pierre Irving, has been charged with multiple counts of first-degree assault and armed criminal action in connection with the shooting.
According to police, Irving shared an apartment with the victims at River Bluff Manor. The dispute reportedly began over Irving’s refusal to keep the shared living space clean, a situation that was further aggravated by alcohol.
During the argument, Irving is alleged to have retrieved a firearm and fired at both his granddaughter and her mother. While the mother was able to escape unharmed, the granddaughter was critically injured, with the bullet remaining lodged in her head.
A Ring doorbell camera captured Irving handing his gun to a neighbor after the shooting, providing crucial evidence for the police investigation. The incident, complete with the flashing lights and sirens of emergency vehicles, drew the attention of nearby residents.
Robert Green, a neighbor living across from the River Bluff complex, recounted the sight of the police lights. He expressed disbelief at the violent turn of events within a family.
Irving is currently in police custody and is being held without bond as the legal proceedings continue. The case has drawn significant attention, underscoring the severe damage that domestic disputes can inflict on families.
