In a disturbing event in Tennessee, authorities found the remains of a young girl, who appeared to be severely undernourished and in a state of mummification. The discovery was made while officers were responding to a call about a woman undergoing a mental health crisis. The woman, identified as 46-year-old Kimberly Moore, is now facing legal consequences for abuse of a corpse and failing to report a death.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the Home Inn and Suites in Memphis last Friday. The call was initiated after Moore started making bizarre assertions that her husband was the owner of the hotel and she was there to supervise the staff’s performance. These facts were disclosed in a probable cause arrest affidavit.
Upon reaching the scene, Moore persisted with her unusual claims. However, it was the overpowering smell coming from her room that drew the deputies’ attention. On entering the room, they discovered the lifeless body of her daughter, who was described as “unresponsive, cold to the touch, malnourished and mummified.”
The report did not provide specific details about the cause of death or the girl’s age. It also did not mention the date of death, only stating that the girl had been dead “for quite some time.” It is still uncertain whether Moore will face additional charges.
Investigators concluded that Moore was undergoing a mental health crisis during the incident. She reportedly refused to answer investigators’ questions, maintaining that her daughter was “still with her” and that she “reads her Bible.”
Following the incident, Moore was transported to a healthcare facility for treatment. She is currently detained at the Shelby County Jail with a bond set at $5,000. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Monday.
