Four Dead at Gay Bar After Tragic Accident

A high-speed chase in Tampa, Florida, ended in tragedy when a street racer lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a popular local gay bar, resulting in the death of four people. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday morning, when the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Silas Sampson, was pursued by police after being spotted racing on Hillsborough Avenue.

The Tampa Police Department’s Air Service initially noticed two vehicles apparently engaged in a street race. The vehicles subsequently split directions, with officers choosing to pursue Sampson, who was reportedly driving at a high speed. Despite attempts to stop him, Sampson continued to race until he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into Bradley’s, a well-known gay bar in the area.

The impact of the crash resulted in the death of four individuals, three of whom were pronounced dead at the scene, while the fourth succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital. At least 11 other people were injured, with one reported to be in critical condition. All the victims were over the age of 20.

Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw expressed his condolences to the victims and their families, stating, “What happened this morning was a senseless tragedy, our hearts are with the loved ones of the victims and all those who were impacted.” He further emphasized that reckless driving had put innocent lives in danger and pledged that the Tampa Police Department and the Florida Highway Patrol were committed to seeking justice for the victims and their families.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m., just 15 minutes before drag performers were scheduled to take the stage at Bradley’s. The bar had posted pictures of a packed dance floor on its social media platforms just hours before the tragedy.

The owners of Bradley’s expressed their grief over the incident, stating, “This tragedy has struck at the heart of Tampa’s LGBTQ+ community. Bradley’s on 7th is more than just a nightclub, it is a sanctuary, a space of celebration, love, and chosen family for countless people across Tampa Bay.”

Sampson was arrested at the scene and is facing vehicular manslaughter charges, with additional felony charges expected to be filed. The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating the incident.
