Bob Bryar, the former drummer of the acclaimed rock band My Chemical Romance, was found dead in his Tennessee home on Tuesday. Bryar, 44, was last seen alive on November 4, according to sources. Authorities have dismissed any suspicions of foul play related to his death, although the cause remains undetermined.
Bryar, who had a successful career as a sound technician for The Used, joined My Chemical Romance in 2004 while the two bands were on tour together. He stepped in to replace the original drummer, Matt Pelissier, and became a permanent fixture of the New Jersey rock band following the release of their second album, “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge.”
Bryar played a significant role during the band’s peak years, contributing to the creation and release of the platinum concept album “The Black Parade” in 2006. This album achieved quadruple platinum status in the US and topped the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart in 2006. It also secured the second spot on the Billboard 200.
During the filming of the music video for the song “Famous Last Words,” Bryar and lead singer Gerard Way were injured. Bryar sustained third-degree burns, which led to the cancellation of the band’s performance at the San Diego Street Scene Festival.
Bryar’s association with My Chemical Romance ended in March 2010, six years after he replaced Pelissier. His exit was due to persistent health issues that led to the cancellation of several shows. The band expressed their sorrow over his departure, stating it was a challenging decision and wishing him success in his future endeavors.
After leaving the band, Bryar worked with other bands on tour before transitioning into the real estate industry. His death coincides with My Chemical Romance announcing their “Long Live” ten-city tour, set to begin in July 2025. Bryar was not scheduled to appear at any of the tour’s shows.
