Former Boxer and New Father Fatally Shot Outside School

Carlos Teron, a 34-year-old father from the Bronx, was tragically shot and killed late Tuesday night outside an elementary school, according to local law enforcement. Teron, a former amateur boxer and recent father to a two-month-old son, was found with a gunshot wound to the head near Clinton Avenue and East 178th Street in West Farms, outside P.S. 595 – The Colibri Community School.

Teron, who began his boxing career at the tender age of nine, was a promising talent in the ring. He participated in an elite amateur tournament and had over 100 amateur fights under his belt. His boxing career spanned from 2004 to 2008, and he was a participant in the renowned New York Daily News Golden Gloves tournament.

Jorge Teron, Carlos’ older brother and a former professional boxer himself, was devastated by the news. He described Carlos as a dedicated father and a hard worker who had recently secured a new job, apartment, and car. Carlos had been working as a sanitation worker for a private company for the past 15 years after retiring his boxing gloves.

Carlos was also known for his love of basketball. According to his brother, Carlos would often spend his days off or daytime hours playing basketball before heading to his night shift at work. Jorge described Carlos as an introverted individual who was a reliable brother, father, and friend.

The circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting remain under investigation. Witnesses and 911 callers reported a group of people gathered outside when the shooting occurred. Jorge suggested that the shooting might have been an act of retaliation following a fistfight Carlos had been involved in the previous week in the same neighborhood.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. A makeshift memorial with two red candles marked the spot where the incident took place, with a police car stationed nearby.

In the wake of the tragedy, Carlos’ family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs of his funeral and memorial services. The family expressed their heartbreak over the sudden loss of Carlos, describing him as a kind, caring, and genuine soul whose warmth and presence touched many lives.
