Father Shot and Killed During Family Party

OXNARD, Calif. — Authorities in Oxnard, California, are investigating the shooting death of a 34-year-old man during a New Year’s Eve party. Jose Juarez was struck by gunfire just around the corner from his home while checking on his children. The incident occurred early on New Year’s Day and resulted in Juarez being pronounced dead at a local hospital.

According to Oxnard police, multiple callers reported shots fired in the area around 12:10 a.m. Officers arrived and found Juarez with a single gunshot wound. They transported him to Ventura County Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Details surrounding the shooting are still scarce, and no arrests have been made. Oxnard police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact Detective Adam Aguilar.

Juarez’s wife, Cassandra, emphasized that he was not involved in any gang-related activities and was a devoted family man. Their children, who are still unaware of the circumstances surrounding their father’s death, believe he is in the hospital and will be returning home soon.

The investigation into the shooting is being handled by the Oxnard Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit. The city of Oxnard is offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for the homicide.
