A Texas man, aged 32, has been apprehended by authorities for allegedly murdering his girlfriend’s father, a 43-year-old man, in her presence. The incident reportedly occurred following a dispute over a nightclub cover charge. The suspect, Franco X. Summers, was arrested over the weekend and is facing a murder charge in connection with the death of Christopher Paul Fuentes, according to court documents.
The San Antonio Police Department responded to a shooting incident around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday near a local taco restaurant on Blanco Road. Upon arrival, first responders discovered a man, later identified as Fuentes, with multiple gunshot wounds. He was declared dead at the scene.
Court documents revealed additional information about the incident. Fuentes, who had recently been released from prison, was at his 23-year-old daughter’s apartment, where she resided with Summers, her boyfriend of three years. The trio had been drinking at the apartment before deciding to visit a bar.
Upon reaching the bar, Fuentes and his daughter reportedly refused to pay the cover charge, which allegedly led to Summers becoming agitated and threateningly stating that he was armed. This was information that Fuentes’ daughter was already aware of. The father and daughter then exited Summers’ vehicle, which seemed to further infuriate him.
Summers reportedly pursued the pair around the parking lot, verbally assaulting them. Surveillance footage showed Fuentes reaching into Summers’ car and grabbing his arm, leading to a brief altercation. The fight ended when Summers allegedly retrieved a gun from the car and shot Fuentes multiple times. Fuentes was seen instructing his daughter to flee during the struggle.
The victim’s daughter recounted the horrifying incident, stating, “Franco [Summers] looked me in my eye and then shot my father. I keep seeing my father’s face once he realized that he was shot. I’m constantly replaying images in my head at night, I can’t sleep.”
On Sunday afternoon, police responded to a family disturbance at a San Antonio residence and found Summers at the scene. He was arrested on a warrant for Fuentes’ murder and three unrelated warrants.
This is not Summers’ first encounter with the law. In 2013, he was charged with murder and aggravated assault for allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend’s brother. Summers claimed self-defense, and due to insufficient evidence, the charges were dismissed.
Summers is currently detained at the Bexar County Jail. His bond was set at $400,000 by a judge on Sunday, according to court records.
