A father and son duo, Shaun Fallon, 56, and Zachary Fallon, 27, both from Charleston, Rhode Island, met a tragic end following a bank robbery in Connecticut. The pair, who were masked, reportedly threatened a teller at the Chelsea Groton Bank in Groton, Connecticut, and fled with an undisclosed sum of money. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. last Thursday, as per the police report.
The authorities located the suspects’ getaway vehicle at a nearby Super 8 Motel approximately six hours later. This discovery led to a standoff, during which the father and son claimed to be armed with firearms and explosives, refusing to surrender.
As the standoff stretched into its sixth hour, two gunshots were heard from the suspects’ hotel room. Drones deployed by the police confirmed that both suspects had been incapacitated by apparent gunshot wounds.
A bomb squad was called in to clear the room for entry, following the evacuation of the motel’s other guests. However, no explosives were found in the room. The police did not provide details about the weapons the pair had in their possession.
The father and son were transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Zachary Fallon was pronounced dead a few hours later. Shaun Fallon, who was hospitalized for several days, succumbed to his injuries on Monday, according to the police. The medical examiner’s office is set to determine the official cause of death for both individuals.
Groton Police Chief L.J. Fusaro commended the bravery and professionalism of all law enforcement personnel involved in the situation. He described the incident as “extremely dangerous and volatile.” The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
