Father and 3-Year-Old Son Found Dead Inside Resort Room

Police say Metallica Rose Harrison called 911 during a crisis before officers discovered her husband and 3-year-old son dead at a Pocono Mountains resort.

SCOTRUN, Pa. — A 27-year-old Pennsylvania woman has been charged with two counts of criminal homicide after police found her husband and 3-year-old son dead inside the family’s room at Great Wolf Lodge in the Pocono Mountains, according to authorities and a criminal complaint.

Metallica Rose Harrison of Towanda is accused of killing her husband, Charles Harrison, and their young son inside the resort room on Monday, Oct. 12. Police responded shortly after 3 p.m. after Harrison called emergency dispatchers while experiencing a suicidal crisis and indicated that her husband and son were already dead. Officers arrived to find Harrison injured and the two family members unresponsive, according to the complaint.

The complaint alleges that Charles Harrison suffered multiple stab wounds and that the couple’s son suffered a fatal stab wound. Investigators recovered two knives from the room, including a large kitchen-style knife and a smaller knife. Resort employees told investigators the knives were not equipment supplied by Great Wolf Lodge. The allegations against Harrison have not been proven in court.

Monroe County District Attorney Mike Mancuso announced the homicide charges Tuesday and described the deaths as a “violent domestic tragedy.” Pocono Township police said investigators believe the deaths resulted from an isolated family incident and that there was no continuing threat to resort guests, employees or the surrounding community.

Investigators are still working to determine what happened before the deaths and why. Authorities have not announced a motive. According to reporting based on the criminal complaint, detectives reviewed resort surveillance footage as they worked to establish a timeline of the family’s movements before police were called. The family had checked into the resort Sept. 21 and had been scheduled to leave Oct. 13.

Harrison was taken to a hospital for treatment after officers arrived. The criminal complaint describes several statements she allegedly made to emergency personnel about her family and her emotional state, but investigators have not said those statements establish a motive. After being advised of her rights, Harrison declined to discuss the circumstances with a detective, according to the complaint.

Authorities have publicly identified the couple’s child only by his initials in court records, and news organizations have generally withheld his full name. The Monroe County coroner said autopsies of Charles Harrison and the boy were expected later in the week. Those examinations could provide investigators with additional information about the deaths.

Great Wolf Lodge said it was deeply saddened by the deaths and was cooperating with law enforcement. The company described what happened inside the guest room as an isolated family incident and expressed sympathy for relatives and others affected. The resort, located in Scotrun in Pocono Township, is a family destination centered around an indoor water park.

The case remains under investigation by Pocono Township police with assistance from the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office, the county coroner and other agencies. Authorities have said forensic evidence and surveillance material are being reviewed as investigators work to establish a more complete sequence of events.

Harrison remained accused of two counts of criminal homicide and was awaiting further court proceedings. Available court reporting did not identify an attorney representing her or establish that she had entered a plea. The charges remain allegations unless proven in court.
