Orange County detectives believe the father killed his two teenage children before taking his own life, according to the sheriff’s office.
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A father and his 17-year-old twins were found dead inside an Orange County home after deputies responded to a request for a well-being check, authorities said, in a case investigators are treating as an apparent murder-suicide.
Deputies identified the teenagers as Carlo Montiel Infantino and Melanie Montiel Infantino, both 17, and their father as Ivan Montiel Roa, 63. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said detectives currently believe Montiel Roa killed his children before taking his own life. The investigation remained open, and authorities had not publicly identified a motive.
Deputies responded Sept. 30 to a home in the 1200 block of Courtney Chase Circle in the Hunter’s Creek area. When they entered the residence, they found Carlo and Melanie dead in the living room, according to the sheriff’s office. Authorities said both teenagers had suffered multiple stab wounds.
Montiel Roa was found dead in a bathroom inside the home, investigators said. Authorities had not publicly disclosed further details about his death or said exactly when the three family members died. The sheriff’s office also had not said who requested the well-being check or what prompted concerns that led deputies to the residence.
The discovery left investigators working to reconstruct the events that occurred before deputies arrived. The sheriff’s office has described the deaths as an apparent murder-suicide based on its investigation so far, but officials said the case remained under investigation. No additional suspects had been publicly identified.
Orange County Public Schools confirmed that two students had died and said grief counselors were available to help students and staff. The district did not release additional details about the teenagers in its initial statement.
State Rep. Rita Harris, who lives near the area where the deaths occurred, told WESH that the loss was devastating, particularly because the victims were so young. Her comments came as neighbors and the broader community learned more about the three deaths.
Some reports described personal and professional difficulties Montiel Roa may have faced before the deaths, including the recent death of his wife. Authorities, however, had not publicly established those circumstances as a motive, and investigators had not announced what they believe led to the killings.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office continued investigating the deaths as of Friday. Officials had not released a detailed timeline, a confirmed motive or additional findings about what happened inside the home before deputies arrived.
