False STD Accusation Leads to Tragic Murder

Keith Eric Agee, a 21-year-old man, is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Brooklyn Taylor Sims, over a mistaken belief that she had given him a sexually transmitted disease. The incident, which took place last year, was captured on bodycam footage during Agee’s arrest. Prosecutors during the trial were adamant that Sims did not have any disease.

Sheila Agee, Keith’s 51-year-old mother, is also facing charges as an accomplice to the first-degree murder. Prosecutors allege that she encouraged her son to kill Sims, who was not only her colleague at Home Depot but also the mother of her grandchild. According to Escambia County deputies in Florida, Sheila sent a text to her son, urging him to kill Sims and warning him not to inform his grandmother, who might dissuade him.

Keith Agee followed through with the act, shooting Sims dead at the Home Depot where they both worked. Authorities reported that he fled the scene but later surrendered himself in a parking lot after calling 911. The bodycam footage from the day of the arrest, August 11, 2023, shows Agee cooperating with the deputies.

During his trial, Agee admitted to confronting Sims but claimed he only shot her when she walked away from him during their conversation. His defense team argued for a lesser charge, but the jury was unmoved and convicted him of first-degree murder.

The case against Sheila Agee is still ongoing. Her son testified that she provided him with Sims’ location prior to the shooting. Interestingly, before her arrest, Sheila had attended a balloon release ceremony held in honor of the victim.

Sheila’s trial began in November, but a mistrial was declared when a juror was discovered doing crossword puzzles during the intense deliberations. A new hearing has been scheduled for February 5, 2025.
