College Basketball Player Dead at 23 After Being Shot in Head

Jamarion Brown, a 23-year-old basketball player at Henderson State, tragically lost his life after being shot in the head at a party in Camp County, Texas. The incident occurred on a Friday night, and Brown was rushed to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Onterrian Jamour Newton, a 17-year-old from Mount Pleasant, Texas, has been arrested and charged with Brown’s murder, according to the Camp County Sheriff’s Office.

Brown, a native of Mount Pleasant, was attending a pool party when the shooting occurred. The police received multiple calls about the incident and found Brown severely injured. A helicopter was dispatched to the scene, but Brown’s condition was too critical for immediate air transport. He was later flown to a hospital in Tyler, Texas, where he passed away.

He was a valued member of the Henderson State University basketball team, earning the admiration of teammates, coaches, and fellow students. Brown, who had transferred from Southwestern Christian College, had just completed his junior season at Henderson State. He averaged 6.5 points and 3.6 rebounds across 23.6 minutes. Henderson State coach Jimmy Elgas expressed his condolences in the school’s statement, highlighting Brown’s impact not only on the basketball court but throughout the university.

The Camp County Sheriff’s Office also reported that there are pending charges regarding two other individuals who were injured during the shooting. One individual was shot in the leg and the other in the hip.
