Co-worker Shoots Hospital Employee

A Michigan-based hospital employee was the victim of a shooting incident perpetrated by a fellow staff member in the hospital’s parking garage on Thursday morning. The incident led to a lockdown at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital as law enforcement officials conducted a search for the shooter. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, reportedly fired five rounds in the parking garage shortly after 7 a.m., in what authorities have described as a “targeted incident between two employees of the hospital.”

The alleged shooter was apprehended without any further incidents around 9:30 a.m. at a residence in the nearby Macomb Township, according to police reports. The victim, a 25-year-old male, was hit twice in the arm, and his vehicle was also damaged in the incident, as reported by Lt. Ben Hancock of the Troy Police Department.

The victim was admitted to the hospital where he is reported to be in stable condition. Troy Police Chief Josh Johnson revealed that the victim and the suspect were once friends who had recently experienced a falling out. The specific roles that the two individuals held at the hospital have not been clarified.

The victim’s identification of the suspect played a crucial role in the police’s ability to apprehend the shooter, according to Lt. Hancock. The shooting incident led to a lockdown at the hospital, with staff receiving an active shooter alert instructing them to “take immediate personal safety measures and follow the run, hide, fight guidelines.”

Lamont Yoder, President of Corewell Health Southeast Michigan, acknowledged that the incident resulted in delays for some scheduled procedures. Local schools were also put on “soft lockdowns,” as reported by Lt. Hancock. The response to the incident involved multiple law enforcement agencies.
